Welcome!

Welcome to my first ever attempt at blogging. Hopefully over the next while I will be able to share a little of what is happening as I live and work in Mzuzu and around the North. The pictures posted are a little out of order but I will learn soon how to get this bit right!

I have been in Malawi for just about 6 weeks and am enjoying the sunshine very much after the sub zero temperatures I left behind in Northern Ireland at the end of February. Sorry to those of you who are still experiencing the winter weather! Recently I have moved into my own house after being looked after very nicely by Diane Cusick for a few weeks. Thank you Diane!

After having spent quite a bit of time packing up at home in Northern Ireland and moving out of my Coleraine house, it was very nice to be unpacking and moving in to my new house. It has a lovely garden with many trees and flowers and probably many creatures that I have not yet seen!

I have been able to spend a bit of time getting to find my way around Mzuzu and investigating where the shops and other important places like the bank etc are to be found. Also I have had the chance to visit some of the very beautiful countryside in the Northern Region.

Last weekend I spent the day in Vwaza National Park with Diane and Sandra, a German volunteer with YWAM. We were able to go on a guided walk where we saw many elephant and in fact nearly shared our lunch with some elephants who came very close... It was certainly a very memorable experience but one that I would not like to repeat too often!

I am also attempting to learn Tumbuka and have language lessons twice a week with a local teacher. It is so much more difficult to learn as an adult but I try my best and now can at least greet the people I meet around me.

Where the Bible says in Philippians ' I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me' it also must include learning a new language, so that is my prayer that with God's help I will be able to learn this language!

It is great to be in Malawi and as this chapter continues to unfold, I am sure there will be much to share!

I hope you are enjoying a restful weekend.

Blessings

Fiona

  1. Hi Fiona. I am sitting at your Mums dining table just now reading your blog. We had been hoping to see Catriona this weekend too but her flight (and all UK flights) has been cancelled due to a volcanic erruption in Iceland! Will be following your blog with interest. Being chased away from the table now so as we can eat! Take care, love from Jacqui x x x
